Mission: The purpose of the PGY 1/2 Pharmacy Administration Residency at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center is to develop pharmacy leaders who are prepared to immediately assume a manager or assistant director level position within the Veterans Health Administration, and eventually a Chief of Pharmacy, VISN Pharmacy Executive, or National Pharmacy Executive position.

Requirements for Completion of Residency

  • Successful completion of all PGY-1 requirements
  • Research project
    • Poster presentation at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • Platform presentation at ALCALDE Residency Conference
    • Research to be submitted in manuscript form for journal publication
    • Project defense for MS and completion of manuscript requirements for graduation
  • Staffing requirements
  • Formal presentations and journal clubs
  • Completion of MS in Pharmacy Administration

Practice Management Experiences

  • Involvement in pharmacy management meetings
  • Projects to improve the medication use process
  • Involvement in pharmacoeconomic cost savings measures
  • Presentation to Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee

Salary and Benefits
