Houston VA Awarded 3-Year Accreditations for Inpatient Rehabilitation, Amputee Programs

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) recently awarded a three-year re-accreditation of the Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Program (CIIRP) and an initial, three-year accreditation of the Inpatient and Outpatient Amputee System of Care Program at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC).

A three-year accreditation is the highest level of accreditation an organization may be awarded.

The surveyors made numerous positive comments regarding the excellent care and professional services provided to Veterans in each program. The teams recognized the Driver Rehabilitation Program for exemplary conformance to CARF standards and were extremely complimentary of staff commitment and compassion throughout the facility.  Additionally, the teams noted the DeBakey VA is fortunate to have a history of low staff turnover and a large number of experienced health care professionals providing long-term stability to meet the needs of its patients.

Walmus, M.H.A., M.A., F.A.C.H.E., MEDVAMC director. “The staff in our Rehabilitation Medicine Programs is top-notch. I am pleased we serve as such a positive example for other hospitals and that our Veterans know they are receiving the highest quality health care possible.”

CARF is a private, not-for-profit organization that grew out of a need in the medical and vocational rehabilitation fields to promote quality programs for people with disabilities and others in need of services. CARF is committed to developing and maintaining practical, customer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality, value, and optimal outcomes in the lives of the persons they serve.
