Ms. Debby Meece will serve as Acting Assistant Director for the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center from October 4 to November 18, 2010.
Ms. Meece is the executive assistant to the director at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, one of the largest and busiest VA systems in the country. She is the director’s go-to person, responsible for a wide variety of duties at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System which is made up of more than 3,000 employees and includes a two-campus medical center with 267 operating hospital beds, a 152-bed Nursing Home Care Unit, and a 119-bed Domiciliary.
She has served Veterans as a Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System employee for more than 25 years. Much of her career has been spent working in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service where she has served in a variety of roles such as bench technologist, weekend supervisor, hematology supervisor, and quality control coordinator. From 1999 to 2007, she served as chief technologist and laboratory manager Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service managing 100 employees providing 24/7 lab support to hospital campuses in Little Rock and North Little Rock.
Ms. Meece received Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Medical Technology from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences respectively. She also received a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration from UALR. She is an avid volunteer, regularly sharing her time and talents with the Special Olympics, the Christian Community Care Clinic in Saline County, and the “Our Lady of Fatima” Catholic Church in Benton, Arkansas. She enjoys reading, running, and spending time with her dog, Teddy.
