Homeless Veterans Block Party April 17, 2012 WHO: The 1st Annual Homeless Veteran Block Party is free for eligible Veterans and their family members.
WHAT: The event will feature a live band and DJ; free lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, lemonade ice tea, and cake; a chess tournament; Wii games; badminton; table games; horseshoes; cotton candy and popcorn; children’s activities such as a 50-foot Safari obstacle course, clowns, and face painting; and information booths for a wide variety of VA programs and services.
WHEN: Saturday, April 21, 2012, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Lunch served at 11:30 a.m.
WHERE: Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, 2002 Holcombe Blvd., Houston Parking Lot A and Gazebo Area Enter Gate #70 off Old Spanish Trail
BACKGROUND:
The 1st Annual Homeless Veterans Block Party provides homeless Veterans and their families with access to and information about the wide range of VA medical and psychosocial services available to assist them reenter mainstream society. The event will also promote VA’s initiative to encourage family, friends, and citizens in the community to “Make the Call” and help prevent and end homelessness among Veterans. VA offers a toll-free telephone number, staffed around the clock by trained professionals, to help homeless Veterans, their families and at-risk people. The number is 877-4AID-VET (or 877-424-3838).
