Thomas O. Kumenda, M.D. has been selected to serve as the new medical director of the Lake Jackson VA Outpatient Clinic.
“Thomas is an extremely talented physician with the unique knowledge and clinical insight into how to best care for our Nation’s heroes,” said J. Kalavar, M.D., Chief of Staff. “His strong work ethic and leadership skills will enable VA to continue providing world-class primary care to Veterans in Brazoria County.”
Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Kumenda completed a family practice residency at the CHRISTUS – St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas and attended the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences in Kenya. He also holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Texas School of Public Health and has spent the last 13 years in family practice. Kumenda is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.
The Lake Jackson VA Outpatient Clinic, a satellite of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, has a staff of 19 providing primary care, laboratory, radiology, clinical pharmacy, social work, TeleHealth, and mental health services to Veterans in the area. In calendar year 2012, there were 14,886 outpatient visits to the clinic.
Located at 208 Oak Drive South, Suite #700, the clinic has six provider offices, three nurse offices, 12 examination rooms, two TeleHealth rooms, an x-ray room, a laboratory, and a procedure room. The mental health side of the building has seven rooms for clinical staff.
