South Central VA Health Care Network Medical Facilities
JACKSON, MS – Despite the damage and devastation Hurricane Ike caused in southeast Texas and other areas near the Gulf Coast recently, the South Central Veteran Affairs (VA) Health Care Network, also known as the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 16, continues to provide an environment of care conducive to veterans affected by the storm. Numerous health care professionals, as well as support teams from the Network’s medical centers in New Orleans, LA and surrounding areas have been mobilized and will stand up healthcare for veterans in the affected areas.
Primary care services have been established, and will be available at the Beaumont Outpatient Clinic (OPC), located at 3420 Veterans Circle, Beaumont, TX 77707. Clinical, administrative, and support teams from the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in New Orleans, LA and nearby VA medical centers will provide the initial staffing and equipment for the Beaumont OPC. As the Beaumont OPC employees are able to return to the area, clinic operations will transition back to the Beaumont OPC staff.
In addition, initial prescriptions will be filled at the Beaumont OPC’s pharmacy, as the VA’s National Mobile Pharmacy, housed in Macon, GA, is assisting with the prescription refill process until the OPC can be fully constituted and running. Displaced veterans needing prescription refills may call the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX at (713) 794-8985 or toll-free at 1-800-639-5137; or the Health Resource Center in Topeka, KS at 1-800-507-4571.
Other updates to clinical operations in the southeast Texas veteran service area include the following:
