Spore Named New Medical Director of Lufkin VA

Brian T. Spore, D.O. has been selected as the new medical director of the Charles Wilson VA Outpatient Clinic in Lufkin.

“With his strong leadership skills and personal drive, Brian has a proven track record of providing high quality, personal attention to his patients," said Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center Chief of Staff J. Kalavar, M.D. “He is an extremely skilled and caring physician, teacher, and mentor.”

Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Spore completed a family practice residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Methodist Hospitals of Dallas and attended the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He has spent the last 12 years in private practice in the Lufkin area. He also serves on the Physicians of East Texas Board of Managers and is the Physicians of East Texas Credentials Committee chairman. Spore is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is a professional doctoral degree for physicians in the United States. Holders of the D.O. degree are known as osteopathic physicians and have the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as physicians with a Doctor of Medicine degree.  Osteopathic medicine is a fast-growing segment of the United States health care field.

The Charles Wilson VA Outpatient Clinic, a satellite of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, has a staff of 55 providing primary care, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, social work, nutrition, and mental health services to Veterans in the area. In fiscal year 2011, there were 52,250 outpatient visits to the clinic.

Located at 2206 North John Redditt Drive, the clinic has eight provider offices, eight nurse offices, 24 examination rooms, a pulmonary function laboratory, and an observation room. On the mental health side of the building, there are 15 rooms for clinical staff and three group therapy rooms.
