Rabih Darouiche, M.D.
Listed as one of the best doctors in the nation, Rabih O. Darouiche, M.D., a staff physician in the Medical and Spinal Cord Injury Care Lines at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, is triple-board certified in Medicine, Infectious Disease, and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. Dr. Darouiche is a VA Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine, Surgery, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and the founder and director of the Center of Prostheses Infection (CPI) at Baylor College of Medicine. He is also the founder and director of the national Multidisciplinary Alliance Against Device-Related Infections (MADRI). He graduated from medical school at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon in 1984, and completed his internship, residency, and fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Darouiche has conducted extensive translational research on the prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of various health-acquired infections including device-related and surgical site infections with some research funded by the National Institutes of Health. He has published 17 textbook chapters, 150 peer-reviewed articles, including four publications in the New England Journal of Medicine as a first author. Dr. Darouiche has 15 issued patents and received many national and international awards for his scholarly achievements.
