Hashem B. El-Serag, M.D., M.P.H.
Listed as one of the best doctors in the nation in the field of gastroenterology, Hashem El-Serag, M.D., M.P.H., a staff physician in the Research Care Line at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, examines Veteran Winston Hoyte during a recent visit. Also a professor of medicine and the Chief of Baylor College of Medicine’s Gastroenterology and Hepatology Section, El-Serag completed his residency in internal Medicine at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut and a clinical gastroenterology fellowship at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. He has received extensive research grant funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Institutes of Health, numerous foundations, as well as private industry. El-Serag’s clinical interests include Barrett's esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, bravo pH monitoring, chronic liver disease, and liver cancer.
