DeBakey VA Medical Center. Reconstructive procedures correct defects on the face or body. These include traumatic injuries like those from car accidents or burns, or the aftermath of disease like rebuilding a woman’s breast after surgery for breast cancer. Netscher (above left) recalls one case, “Our reconstructive surgeons rebuilt a veteran’s face and jaw after a gunshot accident. Without this surgery, he would not have been able to live a normal life.” Netscher is also a clinical professor, Division of Plastic Surgery; assistant professor, Department of Otorhinolaryngology & Communicative Sciences; and associate professor, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine.
