The purpose of the PGY1/PGY2/MS Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center is to develop pharmacy leaders who are prepared to immediately assume a manager or assistant director level position within the Veterans Health Administration and eventually become a Chief of Pharmacy, VISN Pharmacy Executive, or National Pharmacy Executive.

Requirements for Completion of Residency

Successful completion of all PGY1 Pharmacy requirements
Complete all requirements, including thesis defense, for the Master of Science in Pharmacy Leadership and Administration program at the University of Houston
Achieve all requirements in the Residency Skillset checklist

Practice Management Experiences

Involvement in pharmacoeconomic lost opportunity cost saving initiatives
Presentations to Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
Active participation in Drug Shortage and Medication Safety committees
Champion of VA Reginal Office (VISN) initiatives
Chief Resident of residency program

Salary and Benefits

PGY1 salary: about $47,500; PGY2 salary: about $51,000
