VA Psychologist Wins Presidential Award
A psychologist at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston was recently named the winner of the President’s Customer Service Award. Dr. Justin Springer, the lead psychologist on the MEDVAMC inpatient mental health unit, was presented the award in a White House ceremony on December 14th.
The President’s Customer Service Award recognizes individuals whose accomplishments, professionalism and commitment to customer service make them a role model among federal employees. Dr. Springer is one of two federal employees nation-wide to receive this prestigious award.
“Dr. Springer is incredibly committed to using patient feedback to improve the Veteran experience,“ said Adam Walmus, MEDVAMC Director. “He meets with Veterans on a regular basis and engages staff to analyze patient satisfaction data and drive improvement efforts in numerous areas throughout the Medical Center. He is truly dedicated to the Veterans we serve and inspires others to high levels of excellence.”
According to Dr. Springer, one of the things he enjoys most about his job is making a difference in the lives of Veterans. “It’s incredibly rewarding serving the Veterans who have served our country,” he said. “At the VA, our goal is to treat each and every Veteran the way we would want one of our own family members to be treated. It’s an honor and a privilege to continually work to provide these heroes the top quality healthcare they deserve.”
Dr. Springer, his wife Bianca, his daughter Emerson, 7, and son Gabriel, 4, traveled to Washington DC to receive the President’s Customer Service Award and met with VA Secretary Robert McDonald. He will be honored at a local MEDVAMC ceremony in January.
