MyHealtheVet Team Partners with NASA Group
The My HealtheVet team at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) recently partnered with NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) to help educate their Veteran workforce about VA benefits available to them.
The Connecting Veterans Employee Resource Group (ConVERG) at the JSC is an internal organization that supports military service members, Veterans and their families. The Houston My HealtheVet team partnered with them to engage with the JSC’s Veteran workforce and inform them of VA health care benefits available directly through VA and local outreach programs.
“Veterans have already earned these benefits, and we want to make these services easily accessible and make sure Veterans know how to use the resources available to them,” Tony Garrett, My HealtheVet Program Support Assistant and U.S. Army Veteran, said. “Through these outreach efforts, our team provides information that gives Veterans confidence in VA systems.”
Garrett says he often explains that My HealtheVet offers Veterans access to multiple advanced features such as Prescription Refill, Blue Button Medical Reports and direct access to their health care team through Secure Messaging.
The Houston My HealtheVet team uses local outreach events to assist Veterans who want to learn more about My HealtheVet features. Frank McNickles, Program Support Volunteer and U.S. Army Veteran, says these types of outreach efforts help Veterans understand the benefits and resources available to them.
“Once Veterans learn how easily accessible their records are, and how easy it is to communicate with their doctor, they are extremely receptive to My HealtheVet and our outreach programs,” McNickles said.
Garrett and McNickles continue to partner with NASA’s JSC and look forward to their next outreach event this spring to support Veterans and their families. Moving forward, they hope to conduct additional outreach events at the JSC every six months.
