VA Names New Houston Medical Center Director

The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Francisco Vazquez, as the new Director of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.  Mr. Vazquez joined the VA more than 21 years ago and has held progressive leadership positions at the VA in Sheridan, Philadelphia, Houston and Oklahoma City.  Most recently he served as the medical center director at the Wichita, Kansas, VA Medical Center.

Mr. Vazquez is also a Navy Veteran who served on active duty as a Naval Surface Warfare Officer from 1986 to 1990 on board the USS Okinawa LPH-3. Following his active duty service, he served for 10 years in the Navy Reserves.

"I am exceedingly delighted to join the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center,” Vazquez said.  “I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve our Houston area Veterans. I look forward to working with the MEDVAMC employees and stakeholders to help ensure our Veterans continue to receive the world class healthcare they have earned and deserve."

Mr. Vazquez will be reporting to Houston in the very near future.
